ID Alum Turns Senior Thesis Into Business

Lorenzo Buffa BS '12 (Industrial Design) launches first-ever collection of flexible all-wood watches through his Analog Watch Co.

Updated October 18, 2013

What started as a senior thesis project while Lorenzo Buffa BS ’12 (Industrial Design) was an undergrad at UArts has turned into Analog Watch Co., a company that produces wristwatches made of all-natural wood.

With the help of a Creative Incubator/Wells Fargo Fellowship Grant from the University's Corzo Center for the Creative Economy and an extremely successful Kickstarter campaign, Analog has just launched its Carpenter Collection, the first-ever line of gender-neutral wooden watches designed with a truly soft and flexible wooden strap.

"We've transformed wood as a material," says Buffa. "We think the simple, clean and iconic design highlights the all-wood grain."

Buffa's wooden timepieces are currently on display as part of the "Making IT" alumni exhibit, which runs through October 26 in Hamilton Hall.

With 23 days still left to go on Kickstarter, Buffa has already surpassed his $10,000 goal. You can also follow the progress of Analog Watch Co. on Facebook, Instagram and Tumblr.
