Art Unleashed Preview Party Draws Record Crowd
More than 600 guests in attendance at the 5th annual exhibition and art sale's opening night gala
April 11, 2013
Last night's Art Unleashed preview party drew a record number of guests, with more than 600 art lovers in attendance.
Now in its fifth year, this annual event helps raise money to support the University's Sam S. McKeel Promising Young Artists Scholarship Fund with an exhibition and sale of artwork in all media from talented UArts students, faculty and alumni.
Among the attendees were Alumni Spotlight Gallery artists Dan Dailey BFA '69 (Crafts) and illustrator Jerry Pinkney DIPL '60 (Advertising Design), as well as exhibiting student, faculty and alumni artists, who were on hand to discuss their work.
Hundreds of original paintings, drawings, prints, ceramics, sculptures, mixed and digital media, photography, and crafts (including jewelry, metals, glass, wood and more) were on display.
Highlights from the gala event included performances by Rumble, the School of Music's bucket-drum ensemble, who greeted guests as they arrived, and a student jazz quartet that kept the crowd entertained the entire evening from the Solmssen Court stage.
Art Unleashed's public sale ran through Saturday, April 13 from noon to 5 p.m. each day.
