February 12, 2013

Langhorne Carpet Company and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) have officially launched the mill's inaugural Conservation Collection featuring the "Willow" design by Teresa Percontino '13 (Crafts), first-place winner of Langhorne's 2012 Morrow Design Competition. The weaving of Percontino's floral pattern into Jacquard Wilton all-wool carpet began during a special loom-side ceremony held recently at the Bucks County, Pa.-based mill.

The Willow Design Carpet is the first pattern offered in the Conservation Collection, which will make its public debut at the PHS Philadelphia Flower Show, taking place March 2 – 10 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Known for its charitable "Carpets of Caring" program for the benefit of non-profit organizations, Langhorne is donating a portion of proceeds from its Flower Show sales to PHS.

"The vibrant energy of last year's Flower Show was inspiring," said Percontino. "Winning the Morrow Design Competition and being part of the show is an incredible experience."

Percontino's Willow pattern was chosen as the winner from original designs submitted by 20 teams of students from six area colleges, including her teammate Olivia Jones '13 (Crafts). Teams were required to submit at least one pattern evocative of the fragile plant kingdom and another representing the world of threatened wildlife.
