January 23, 2013

To celebrate the launch of the brand-new BFA in Creative Writing program, the University of the Arts is hosting its first Poetry Slam. This free and open-to-the-public juried event will take place on Tuesday, February 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Barnes & Noble in Center City Philadelphia (1805 Walnut Street).

The Poetry Slam offers local high school juniors and seniors the chance to show off their creative writing talents by reading their work for family, friends and peers. Students are invited to read original work of any style and subject matter totaling no more than three minutes. Language and topics should be family-friendly.

Members of the Creative Writing faculty at UArts will serve as Poetry Slam jurors and will award prizes including tuition scholarships for the new BFA program as well as for the University's Pre-College Summer Institute.

Pre-registration is not required for this event.
