The University of the Arts is proud to announce the 2013 Edna Andrade Summer Travel Scholarship, a $4,000 award given to a College of Art, Media & Design (CAMD) junior for study abroad. The scholarship is awarded in memory of late Painting Professor and Op Art artist Edna Andrade, a beloved UArts teacher and mentor who died at the age of 91 in 2008.

Andrade taught for more than three decades at UArts and received the College of Art Association Award for Distinguished Teaching in 1996. While an undergraduate student at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, she was awarded a fellowship for international travel. A strong advocate of artists having their eyes open to new cultures, new experiences and new art, Andrade wanted students to have broadening educational experiences that would benefit them as people and as artists.

The recipient of the Edna Andrade Summer Travel Scholarship will have their scholarship applied to their financial aid package and will receive a refund check to be used only for expenses associated with their specified summer travel. Mailed application packets must be received by Friday, February 15, 2013, no later than 5 p.m.

The scholarship recipient will be determined by a juried committee of three artists selected by the CAMD dean's office. Students with questions about the 2013 Edna Andrade Summer Travel Scholarship should contact Amanda Black, associate director of Student Financial Services, via email at or call 215-717-6137.
