Mara Jill Herman BFA '07 (Musical Theater) is a contributing author of So You Wanna Be A Superstar? The Ultimate Audition Guide (Running Press Kids), a how-to guide for teens auditioning for their school shows, choirs, glee clubs and a cappella groups. Written by Ted Michael with Herman and Nic Cory, the guide is available on Amazon and at major bookstores.
So You Wanna Be A Superstar features audition advice from UArts faculty member Charlie Gilbert, director of the Ira Brind School of Theater Arts, and a foreword by Tony Award winner Lea Salonga, as well as industry quotes from Broadway, TV and film stars like Will Chase, Emily Skinner, Steven Sater, Craig Burns, Julia Murney, Daphne Rubin-Vega and Chad Kimball.
Although the recently released book is aimed at the teen audience, readers of all ages will benefit from this playful yet informative learning tool.
A native New Yorker currently living in Manhattan, Herman recently starred as Adelaide in "Guys & Dolls" and taught her audition workshop at Great Plains Theatre. She hit the road with the North American Tour of "Jesus Christ Superstar" starring Ted Neeley and more recently sailed the high seas to South America and Antarctica as the lead vocalist in "Showroom at Sea" for Holland America/Stiletto Entertainment.
In the studio, Herman has recorded for composers Scott Alan, Julia Meinwald and Tony Bisbano. She also lent her vocals to the web series "The Battery's Down" and Stage Stars Records' "Mamma Mia" and "West Side Story."
