Photography Student Interns with 'Philadelphia Inquirer,' Snaps Front Page Photo

October 3, 2011

Ashlee Espinal BFA ’13 (Photography) took her photography into the real world this fall with a coveted photojournalism internship at The Philadelphia Inquirer.

On Monday, September 26, Ashlee’s editor assigned her to cover the press conference announcing a new hotel in Center City Philadelphia. Her photo of Mayor Michael Nutter and the Parkway Corporation's Robert Zuritsky making the announcement landed on the front page of the newspaper the next day.

“When I arrived at the conference, videographers for all the news stations were set up around the podium, giving me little to no space to move around,” she said. “I wove in and out of the crowd looking for the perfect angle and the decisive moment. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience that I will use to inform my future assignments.”
