MFA Studio Art Student Shortlisted for the Skywards International Art Prize Competition

'Cups' by Taegyun Yoon to compete for $5,000 and trip to Art Dubai Fair

September 1, 2011

Taegyun Yoon (Lujin) MFA '12 (Studio Art) has been shortlisted for the 2011 Skywards International Art Prize competition.

Sponsored by Emirates Airlines, the winner will receive a commission fee of $5,000 and will be invited to the Art Dubai Fair - the leading contemporary art fair for the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia - where they will display their winning entry along with other artworks they have created.

Included in the Modernism category, Yoon's piece titled "Cups" focuses on the act of stacking, with the nature of individual materials determining construction methods, scale and final form.

Yoon converts the everyday, found object into a work of beauty, and attempts to reinvent and question the fixed idea of the object’s original purpose. His work revolves around the metaphorical human condition.
