University of the Arts, Japanese Exchange Students Create Collaborative Art Installations
'Mapping Experience: A Japan and UArts Exchange,' featuring 15 students and three faculty members from Japan's Kinki University, explores language, identity and cultural hybridity
March 10, 2011
The University of the Arts welcomes 15 undergraduate students and three faculty members from Kinki University in Higashi-Osaka, Japan, who are participating in a Japan/UArts exchange titled "Mapping Experience."
These inspiring art installations explore language, identity and cultural hybridity, and act as visual maps documenting the students' personal and collective journeys while exploring Philadelphia and living and creating art together.
Join us in celebrating this dynamic collaboration on Monday, March 14 from 4 to 6 p.m. in Gallery One and the Sculpture Gallery in Hamilton Hall and in Gallery 817 in Anderson Hall, which will also feature dance performances at 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monetary donations to the Japan Society's disaster relief fund will be collected in the galleries and the artists and their faculty will be present to discuss their work.
