University's 'Art Unleashed' Exhibition and Sale to Benefit Student Scholarship Fund
Second annual event features a wide array of artwork by students, faculty and alumni
January 25, 2010
With hundreds of student, faculty and recent alumni-created artworks from a wide spectrum of disciplines, "Art Unleashed," the second annual exhibition and sale at the University of the Arts, has something to offer every level of art enthusiast – from the beginning collector to the most avid aficionado.
Featuring original paintings, drawings and prints, ceramics and sculptures, mixed and digital media, and crafts (including jewelry, metals, wood and more), the show opens with a preview party on Thursday, April 22 from 5 to 9 p.m. "Pop-up" performances will showcase talented students from the University's schools of Music, Theater Arts and Dance. The public sale is Friday, April 23 from noon to 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 24 from 1 to 5 p.m. All events will be held in the University's Hamilton Hall (320 S. Broad St., Philadelphia).
Philanthropist Anne F. Hamilton, who serves on the boards of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Academy of Music, Please Touch Museum and Philadelphia Hospitality, is co-chairing the event committee with fellow philanthropists Pamela Berkman, Laurie Marshall and Pia Roychowdhury. The inaugural 2009 event featured nearly 300 pieces of art from more than 200 university students, faculty and alumni and raised nearly $100,000.
Proceeds from the sale will benefit the University's Sam S. McKeel Promising Young Artists Scholarship Fund, the main source of scholarships for University of the Arts students. Recently renamed in honor of the long-time University trustee, the fund plays an important role in financially supporting the University's most talented and deserving students. Donor generosity assists these students in continuing their work and achieving their artistic goals.
Sponsorship opportunities ranging from $150 to $25,000 are available and come with an increasing level of benefits. If you are interested in becoming a presenting sponsor or have any sponsorship questions, contact Vice President of Development Gregory Murphy at 215-717-6147.
