2009-2010 Winter Break Building Closures and Mail Schedules
In order to manage the University’s utilities and personnel expenditures effectively over the Winter Break, access to campus buildings will be limited, as was the case last year, and heat levels in all buildings will be reduced to minimal maintenance levels. Furnaces, kilns and ovens in the metals, ceramics and glass studios will be set at low fire levels and building staffing levels will be adjusted.
All University buildings will be closed on the following holidays:
December 25, 2009, Christmas Day
January 1, 2010, New Year’s Day
Winter Break: December 22, 2009 – January 3, 2010
University facilities will close on Monday, December 21, 2009, at 5 p.m. and will re-open on Monday, January 4, 2010, at 8 a.m. Residence halls will close at 5 p.m. December 21 and re-open at 8 a.m. January 15, 2010.
Anderson and Hamilton Halls will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Hamilton Hall access will be via the Pine Street security guard station entrance. The front entrance to Hamilton Hall will be closed. Furness Hall studios will be open with access from the Pine Street security guard station entrance. Terra and Gershman Halls will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Arts Bank, Drake Theater, 309 S. Broad St. and Merriam Theater will be closed until Monday, January 4, 2010.
Only faculty, staff and graduate students with a valid University of the Arts I.D. will have access to open campus buildings (i.e. Anderson, Hamilton, Gershman and Furness Halls) during the Winter Break, and only during posted building hours. Because heating will be maintained at low levels, please dress accordingly should you plan to be on campus during this period.
January 4 - 15, 2010
All University buildings will be open from 8 a.m. to midnight. Administrative offices will re-open and undergraduate students will be granted access to all buildings on Monday, January 4, 2010.
NOTE: Graduate students with a valid University of the Arts I.D. will have access to studio spaces in Anderson and Furness Halls during the Winter Break according to available building hours – except when buildings are closed. A current list of graduate students is posted at each applicable guard station.
The mail room will be open the following hours during winter break:
December 22 – 23, 8 a.m. to noon
December 28 – 30, 8 a.m. to noon
Departments that wish to have mail delivered during these days should contact Distribution Services at 215-875-8012.
Please do not schedule any package deliveries (UPS, FedEx, etc.) during the two weeks the University is closed, as there will be no one here to receive them.
Be advised that using FedEx Home for shipping items to the University of the Arts delays their delivery. FedEx Home is for residential delivery. Packages arrive here after Distribution Services is closed, so FedEx must attempt re-delivery the next day. Using regular FedEx for University deliveries is recommended.
Facilities Management and Operations will have staff on campus throughout the Winter Break. They can be reached through the Office of Public Safety at 215-717-6666.
Have a safe and happy Winter Break.
