Scholarship Application Guidelines

    print version
Deadline: April 5, 2008

Scholarship funds are limited, therefore awards are competitive. Partial scholarships are awarded for talent and/or merit; full scholarships are also awarded based on need. Faculty members from the respective programs will review scholarship applications. In considering the applicants, all components of the application are weighted together, with a special emphasis on the portfolio or audition.

Partial and full scholarships are available for students in all programs. Scholarships are disbursed in varying amounts, including full-tuition, half-tuition, quarter-tuition, and a $200 merit scholarship.

To apply for a scholarship, students must carefully adhere to the guidelines listed. Incomplete and/or late applications will be returned without review.

Applying for a scholarship is optional. Students are encouraged to submit registration materials as soon as possible and not wait until the scholarship deadline to ensure a place is held in the program of their choice. Most class spaces are filled prior to the scholarship deadline. Students cannot be considered for scholarship review if they do not have a guaranteed space in a program at the time of review.

Scholarship Requirements

1 A completed registration form with $100 tuition deposit and a $150 program fee. The tuition deposit and program fee are waived for full scholarship applicants.

2 A completed scholarship application.

3 A letter of recommendation from a high school art teacher related to your field of study.

4 An official high school transcript of the past two years (at least three complete marking-periods). Please note that students who receive a grade of “C” or below in more than one class listed on their transcript will not be considered for a scholarship.

5 A one-page typed essay that answers the following question:
Why are the arts important to you and what role do the arts play in your life?
(Include goals, dreams and aspirations, and/or discuss why you are interested in attending The University of the Arts Pre-College Summer Institute, and why you feel you deserve a scholarship. This is also a good place to discuss any personal situations or hardships that impact your life and/or future studies.)

6 A portfolio or audition that includes examples of your work, performance, or recordings as specified in Portfolio/Audition Requirements for Scholarship Applicants.
