The University of the Arts inaugurated Sean T. Buffington on Friday, April 18, 2008 at 11 o'clock in the morning at the University's Merriam Theater.

The ceremony culminated a week-long series of Symposium events that celebrated creativity and invention. Combined with the University's first "all-years" alumni reunion, the Inauguration events marked the beginning of the next era at The University of the Arts.

Buffington assumed the University's presidency on August 15, 2007. An academic administrator and arts advocate, Buffington was previously the Associate Provost for Arts and Culture and Director of Cultural programs at his alma mater, Harvard University. He succeeds Miguel Angel Corzo, who stepped down after seven years to assume the presidency of the Colburn School in his native Los Angeles.
