Previous Degree Requirements:

The Master of Arts in Museum Education Program candidate should possess a BFA, BA, or BS degree, demonstrated work experience in the museum field or in related institutions/consultancies or discipline-based training and the intention of utilizing this specialized training in a museum context. The candidate must also have a basic computer word processing and internet user ability.

All candidates must present a preliminary statement of career objectives and provide other academic and career information as a condition for consideration for admission to the program. We welcome students from a non-art background, and encourage them to apply.

Portfolio Requirements:

Applicants to the Master of Arts in the Museum Education Program are requested to submit a portfolio of their work and/or professional experience. In addition, the applicant should include a sample of his/her writing skills, which may be in the form of an academic paper or a professional document (an exhibition catalog, a teaching plan, or a proposal, for example).

Applicants may substitute an alternative presentation for the portfolio. This presentation may include, but is not limited to, materials that demonstrate professional skills or experience and may include original work, written or published documents, slides, photographs, and videotapes. Applicants with a non-art background should submit materials showing their strengths in the areas of their academic preparation and/or professional experience.

Material is requested so that the admissions committee may:
1) Judge the applicant's qualifications for entry into the program; and
2) Evaluate applicant's strengths and weaknesses relative to specific aspects of the program.

The applicant will be responsible for arrangements for the return of any portfolio/presentation materials submitted. If there are any questions, please contact the director of the program.

Applicants with Non-Art Backgrounds:

Applicants with no training in desktop computer applications may be required to take a basic computer skills course as their elective during their first semester of the program.

International applicants from non-English speaking countries will be required to show a TOEFL score of 550 or equivalent. International credentials must be evaluated by ACEI, the Academic Credentials Evaluation Institute.
