This is a full-time practicum at a museum which is intended to offer an opportunity for supervised experience in a professional setting consistent with the candidate's career objectives. Scheduled upon completion of the one-year coursework, it is designed to provide the student with a thorough understanding of the practice of educational programming within the context of the museum or other interpretive centers.

The internship is supervised jointly by the Director of the Museum Education and the supervising official at the host institution. A formal agreement with the institution is negotiated to establish the scope and obligations of each internship. Many participating museums and museum consultancies are expected to fund internships, but students may elect to participate in an unfunded internship.
