Exposed Lecture Series: A Design Praxis for the Emergent World

Presented by the Graphic Design program, featuring Nathan Felde and Dietmar Winkler, who will present "Concerns About Visual Communication During Times of Globalization."

Nathan Felde is a visual communication systems designer with experience ranging from unique printed posters to advanced prototype telecommunications networks. He is currently the Chair of the Design Department at the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University.

Dietmar Winkler was born in Germany, and since 1960 has been combining professional design practice with teaching of design and communication subjects. In 1998 he became Director of the School of Art and Design at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, leaving his Hall Chair at the Kansas City of Art Institute, where he directed the Center for Form, Image and Text. For many years, he was a member of the Design Department at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. His projects focused on visualization of complex and incongruent data, and multi-entry hypertext environments. He was also responsible for the initiation of a multi-disciplinary project involving the departments of education, science, communication, journalism, design, art, political science, history, sociology, psychology, and cognitive science. He has been associated to several post secondary institutions and is a member of the advisory board of the Visual Language journal.
