Orly Genger

Rosenwald-Wolf Gallery

Orly Genger creates sculptures and large-scale installations from painted climbing rope, relating her large-scale sculptures to drawings in space. These immense forms begin with single lengths of rope repeatedly knotted to generate bulk and form. The massive drawings are built up in a similar additive process; layers of linear ink marks suggest depth while embracing the flatness of the pictorial plane.

Genger has shown at the Aldrich Museum, Indianapolis Museum of Arts, the Cornell Fine Arts Museum at Rollins College, MASS MoCA, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Denver. Her work is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, N.Y.; the Hood Art Museum, Dartmouth; Albright-Knox Gallery, Buffalo; and the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

Genger has been featured in Sculpture magazine, Art in America, Modern Painters, ArtNews, The Village Voice and The New York Times, among others.
