Mary Parisi: Food

Gallery 1401

"Food" explores the complicated relationship we have with food. In Mary Parisi's large-scale color photographs, we see close-up views of the detritus of cooking, and the preparation and aftermath of a meal. Starting in the 1990's, Parisi created sculptures and photographs of fruit, and this exhibition is a continuation of that work.

The Boston Globe wrote of "Food" that "the irony of Mary Parisi's photographs of food is that, although completely undoctored, they look wildly unnatural, even unrecognizable, compared to the luscious offerings we see in the pages of magazines and supermarket fliers."
