Christopher Davison: Brawler
Nov 14—Dec 1 2011
Gallery 817
Brawler features works on paper from the last two years and a large-scale wall drawing created specifically for the exhibition. Davison's work contrasts delicate line, spattered strokes, with thick passages of gouache and tempera to create a visceral tension between material, image and the figure. Narrative is constructed through fragments, drawn from myth, art history and allegory, often using the figure or landscape as expressive motifs. The balance between artifice and image gives birth to a body of work that is at once familiar and unknown.
Christopher Davison received his MFA from Tyler School of Art. His work has been exhibited nationally in New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Los Angeles and internationally in Copenhagen, Rome and Brussels. Davison's work can be viewed in the public collections of the Rose Art Museum (Mass.), University of Alabama and the Museum of the Hague (The Netherlands). He lives and works in Philadelphia and is represented by Mark Moore Gallery (Calif.) and Fred Torres Collaborations (N.Y.).
