Josh MacPhee: The City Is Ours
Apr 8 2013 6:00PM - 8:00PM
Terra Hall, Room 511-13
The Industrial Design department, the Mural Arts Program and muraLAB present a lecture by designer, artist and activist Josh MacPhee. The New York City-based author will explore the notion of the Commons as a place for both sanctioned and unsanctioned individual and collective storytelling and agency, and about the role of image and text (in murals, graffiti, printmaking and other more ephemeral forms) in engendering thought and action in public space. Introduction by Elizabeth Thomas, Mural Arts’s first visiting curator.
MacPhee is a founder of the Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative and a member of the Occuprint collective. He is the co-author and co-curator of Signs of Change: Social Movement Cultures 1960s to Now, co-editor of Signal: A Journal of International Political Graphics and Culture, and he recently co-founded the Interference Archive, a public collection of cultural materials produced by social movements.Terra Hall
