Apr 16—May 12 2012
Crafts Gallery (Anderson Hall, 5th Floor)
Solo exhibit by resident Crafts Artist in the Jewelry/Metals Program, Bifei Cao. A native of China, Cao graduated from the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology, and received his MA degree at the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University before receiving an MFA in jewelry and metals program at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) under Lynda LaRoche.
He is exceptional at utilizing materials to create a dialogue between the work and the viewer. These multi-piece sculptures comprised of both wearable and hollowware elements are made of precious metals, wood, acrylic and found objects. Design and execution capture the viewer’s attention, but the stories created engage and communicate with the viewer profoundly.
Cao's work has been exhibited in the SNAG Student Exhibition, Pittsburgh Metals Exhibition and Hong Kong International Jewelry Show.
Opening Reception: April 26, 5:30 – 7 p.m., The Crafts Gallery
Artist’s Public Lecture: April 26, 4 p.m., CBS Auditorium, Hamilton Hall
