Spring 2014 MFA Studio Art Thesis Exhibition

Gallery 224

The University of the Arts is proud to present the Spring 2014 MFA Studio Art Thesis Exhibition featuring Amy Brand MFA ’14 (Studio Art) and Deborah Decker MFA ’14 (Studio Art).

Decker’s work focuses on issues of social justice through portraiture. Using her years of experience as an educator in the public school system of Los Angeles, she tells the stories of her students and their communities.

Brand’s collection of sculpture and everyday artifacts explores how objects help people create systems of understanding – through scientific, spiritual and/or personal means. Her work juxtaposes mythological female archetypes with the detritus of daily life in order to question assumptions about the roles of women in contemporary society.

Opening Reception: May 10, 5 – 7 p.m.
