Visiting Artist Lecture: Kai Chan

Visiting artist Kai Chan will give a talk about “Kai Chan: A Spider’s Logic – a 35-Year Retrospective,” an exhibition originated by Textile Museum of Canada and Varley Art Gallery of Markham in 2010 that has toured to Québec, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Nova Scotia.

Chan is a graduate of Ontario College of Art and has exhibited across Canada, the United States, Japan, Australia and Europe. He has received numerous grants from Canada Councils and Ontario Arts Council and awards, including the Jean A. Chalmers National Crafts Award and the Saidye Bronfman Award for Excellence in the Fine Crafts. His work is in the collection of Musée d’art de Baie-Saint-Paul, Québec; Musée d’art de Joliette, Québec; Museum London, Ontario; Mendel Art Gallery, Saskatoon; Musée des Arts Decoratifs de Montréal; the Canadian Museum of Civilization; the Library and Gallery, Cambridge, Ontario; Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimusem, Norway and the Canada Council Art Bank. He is represented by David Kaye Gallery in Toronto, Galerie Elena Lee in Montréal and Galerie Ra in Amsterdam.
