The Alchemist: Paintings by Francis C Tucker
Nov 4—Dec 20 2013
In the fall of 2011, two dear friends of former Painting/Drawing faculty member Francis Tucker, Drs. Jack Barchas and Rosemary Stevens, approached the University to fund an exhibition and catalog of Tucker's paintings and hand-carved frames. Tucker was an extraordinary teacher who generously shared all his technical knowledge and poetic sensibilities with students, artists and friends. He loved teaching and he loved painting.
In the spring of 2012, during the planning of his exhibition and catalog, Tucker's health began to decline. Even amidst health issues, he remained active, reviewing the catalog and discussing the exhibition days before he passed away on December 21, 2012.
This exhibition celebrates Tucker's work and his important contribution to the University of the Arts community.
Many thanks to Tucker's wife, Mary Ann, and his daughter, Kathy Tucker Longwith, who graciously and generously helped put this exhibition together.
Opening Reception & Memorial: November 4, 5 – 7 p.m.
