CHEESESTEAK 2013: 14th Annual Philadelphia Stage Combat Workshop
Oct 4—Oct 6 2013
Hosted by the University of the Arts, the Cheesesteak is a stage combat spectacular featuring local, national and international faculty.
Friday, October 4 will include two special events: Maestro Jeanette Martinez from Manhattan will teach a six-hour workshop on French smallsword, the gentlemen’s weapon of the 18th century. This is the real thing, not stage combat or competitive fencing. Australian Fight Director Nigel Polton will conduct an all-day workshop on Theatrical Firearms Safety.
There will be seven class sessions (four classes per session) on October 5 and 6. In addition to beginning classes in all eight SAFD disciplines, there will be intermediate and advanced classes in a wide variety of weapons.
Saturday will conclude with a large battle. Last year, UArts Fight Director Charles Conwell and the faculty staged the infamous massacre of Paris with 46 combatants. This year’s battle will be announced soon.
A cheesesteak lunch will be served each day.
