Philadelphia Sculptors: Pinned

Solmssen Court

Join Philadelphia Sculptors as we leap the cultural divide to show how art and sport are closer than they seem.

Twenty-seven artists – including alumni Michael Biello BFA '73 (Crafts), Rebecca Hoenig MFA '93 (Book Arts/Printmaking), Deanna McLaughlin MAT '95 (Art Education) and Howard Neifeld BFA '76 (Painting) – have put their spin on this sometimes ridiculed activity, transforming regulation maple bowling pins into objects of whimsy, humor, provocation, mystery and curiosity. Artists will present a new vision of sport where the only losers are those who don’t play. Instead of knocking down pins, artists will score points by building them up and turning them into art.

The public is invited to join in the fun and bid on the pin of their choice at the auction on Saturday, June 22. The reception will run from 4 – 7 p.m., with the auction scheduled for 6 p.m. Lewis Wexler of the Wexler Gallery in Philadelphia will be the auctioneer for this special event. The auction will benefit Philadelphia Sculptors (and the artists.) Come early to bid on your favorite piece! Additional bowling-related activities and food, including very special Hires Root Beer floats, will enliven the event.
