Art In City Hall: Recent Graduates

Art Gallery at City Hall

Art In City Hall presents "Recent Graduates," a juried art exhibition sampling early works by emerging artists from some of Philadelphia’s most prestigious art schools. The exhibit includes work by recent UArts alumni Dorothea Vile BFA ’13 (Crafts), April Field BFA ’11 (Crafts), Quizayra Gonzalez BFA ’10 (Multimedia), Sara Hanlon BFA ’13 (Painting/Drawing) and Mason Owens ’13 (Multidisciplinary Fine Arts).

"Recent Graduates" recognizes the Philadelphia region for its large number of quality art programs, and highlights promising emerging artists soon to impact Philadelphia’s vibrant visual arts scene. The accepted artists are graduates of BFA and MFA programs from Moore College of Art and Design, Temple’s Tyler School of Art, the University of the Arts, Swarthmore College and Drew University. Submissions were received from a number of schools from the Philadelphia region, including Rutgers University, Rowan University, Bryn Mawr College, Cheyney University and others.

The works were selected by members of the Art In City Hall Exhibitions Advisory Committee composed of local arts professionals, including Amie Potsic, executive director of the Main Line Arts Center; Leslie Kaufman, executive director of Philadelphia Sculptors; and Ona Kalstein, board member of the Da Vinci Art Alliance.

Art In City Hall presents exhibitions that showcase contemporary artwork by emerging and professional visual artists from the Philadelphia region. Encompassing a variety of mediums, techniques and subjects, this municipal program is committed to presenting a diversity of ideas and artistic explorations. The program strives to link visual artists with the larger community by providing the public with a greater knowledge and appreciation of their artistic achievements.
