Assistant Professor, School of Dance

The University of the Arts' School of Dance seeks two Assistant Professors of Studio Practice with a focus in ballet. Reporting to the Director of the School, both positions will be required to teach at all levels of ballet. In addition, successful candidates must be able to teach one or more of the following courses: choreography, staging and coaching, somatic practices, dance history/theory/criticism, partnering, composition/improvisation, and/or related studio practice specialties. Additional responsibilities may include advising & mentoring students, participating in student assessment & audition processes, and fulfill faculty service expectations. Candidates should bring to the curriculum expansive pedagogical approaches to the practice and research of ballet in the 21st century.

The School of Dance at the University of the Arts is the largest undergraduate Dance program in the United States, with a student population of approximately 300 exceptionally creative and talented students, taught by award-winning faculty and visiting artists. Together with the School of Music and the Ira Brind School of Theater Arts, the three schools comprise the College of Performing Arts.

Under the direction of Donna Faye Burchfield, the School has developed an innovative new curriculum that prepares students for the 21st century world of professional dance, offering the depth and rigor of a discipline-based dance conservatory while engaging students in open discussions within their own practice, valuing their voices as capable of developing new and critical perspectives in dance.

QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated teaching skills and professional experience with knowledge of and experience in both classical and contemporary ballet within the US and abroad.

An earned MFA degree in dance or comparable professional experience required.
