Graduate Grants & Scholarships

University-offered, graduate merit-based scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence and demonstrated talent. The Trustee’s, Dean’s, and Director’s Scholarships are highly selective awards and range in amount, up to approximately 50% of tuition. No additional application is necessary. Awards are available for all degree programs, except for the MM in Music Education, the MEd in Educational Technology, the MEd in Educational Program Design, and graduate certificates.

Museum Studies

The Museum Studies Von Hess Internship Fellowship

With the generous support of the Richard C. Von Hess Foundation, UArts offers three fully funded internship opportunities to UArts Museum Studies students, in partnership with three acclaimed institutions: the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, Massachusetts; the Baltimore Museum of Art; and the Walters Art Museum, also in Baltimore.

Benefits

Successful students professionally benefit from a 10-week internship experience tailored to their area of study, as well as a living stipend of $7,000–$8,000, depending on the internship placement.

How to Apply

Graduate students must be enrolled and be in good standing (3.1 or above) in UArts’ Museum Studies program. Students apply at the beginning of their second semester (February) and complete the Von Hess application by the due date. Grad students are put forward by the department to the host museums that make the final decisions.

Application requirements include

  • a resume,

  • an essay of professional purpose and goals,

  • two letters of recommendation from Museum Studies faculty, and

  • an official UArts transcript.

Other Scholarships

We encourage you to explore all options for additional external scholarship opportunities. Scholarships from local businesses, boosters, foundations, churches, unions, etc., can be used as payment toward your educational costs. Those scholarships are applied on top of any existing financial aid to meet your costs.

Some scholarship search engines are FastWeb and GoodCall. Student Financial Services advises students to never pay to apply for a scholarship.

If you receive an external scholarship, you must notify Student Financial Services by sending a copy of the scholarship letter, as required by the Department of Education. This may allow a pending credit to be issued on your bill. Scholarships cannot exceed the maximum budgeted costs allowed for your educational expenses.

Assistantships & Fellowships

Often, graduate candidates ask if UArts offers fellowships or assistantships to graduate students upon matriculation and acceptance. UArts offers scholarship funds based on merit and some additional work opportunities for additional compensation, based on skill and experience once you have arrived and are assessed on campus.

Though many larger institutions offer fellowships and assistantships that require students to work or teach to receive those awards, we do not require our graduate students to work, but in certain instances, we can offer opportunities that might extend beyond the scholarship awarding process.

If you have questions about additional work opportunities, email Student FInancial Services at  finaid@uarts.edu.
