Certificate in Vocal Performance
What's the Certificate in Vocal Performance program like?
The two-year Certificate in Vocal Performance program consists of the musical studies normally taken during the first two years of the Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance program. No liberal arts courses are required.

What vocal performance opportunities are available?
Sharpen your technical and improvisational skills with diverse performance opportunities. Vocal Performance students select ensembles that most accurately reflect performance and study interests, including jazz vocal ensembles, chorus and chamber singers, vocal workshops, and an ongoing series of master classes. Guest artists provide unique perspective and the opportunity to learn from thise who have launched a successful singing career. Collaborative performances with the School of Dance allow you to perform with live performers. Student recitals and compositions allow for peer collaborations.

How will I be prepared for a professional singing career?
Many of our students begin to sing professionally before graduating. Philadelphia offers numerous venues for soloists and small ensembles in concert halls and clubs.  Our community of faculty and students is also a community of performers, and often one musician with a gig will invite others to sit in or will help them make professional connections.  You will come to realize that at UArts, playing music professionally is not just a dream destination – real pathways are in place to take you there.

Are the School of Music faculty professional musicians?
Yes. The faculty is made up of experienced and practicing professionals, many of whom have attained international stature as performing and recording artists. This professional faculty is supplemented by an impressive roster of guest artists along with a regular series of workshops, master classes, and performances guests.

How long does the program take to complete?
It is normally completed in two years of full-time study with a total requirement of 54 credits.

UArts also offers a four-year intensive Diploma in Vocal Performance and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance.

The program will help you develop discipline and focus via weekly, one-hour private instruction in voice with a renowned artist-teacher."
