What makes UArts summer MFA programs distinctive?
Each of The University of the Arts MFA programs offers you a studio-based education providing the conceptual, critical, historical and practical knowledge needed to sustain a successful studio. These summer MFA programs in ceramics, painting and sculpture are low residency, and designed to meet the needs of artists working and living in the Philadelphia area as well as artsits who are seeking a distance learning master of fine arts degree.
How long do the programs take to complete?
Three years. You’ll immerse yourself in your work during three annual eight-week summer residencies of intensive, individually focused studio experience. During the fall and spring semesters, you’ll complete independent studios, writing and research projects, and work on your thesis.
What if I’m a local student?
You’ll maintain contact with studio faculty and present studio work at specific intervals, including final critiques.
What if I’m out of the region?
• You’ll meet with assigned studio mentors in your geographic area for periodic and final critiques.
• You’ll complete off-campus writing and research projects working through mail or email communication with your seminar faculty.
What facilities are available?
• Dedicated painting studios
• Three major gas kilns with 90-, 40- and 30-cubic foot capacity
• Numerous electric kilns, wood and metal shops
• Carving studios, a forge and foundry.
