As you study figurative illustration at UArts, you will hone your skills and knowledge related to figurative drawing, painting and general picture making. The minor is particularly demanding and especially beneficial for students studying for degrees in Painting or Animation.
What is the focus of the minor?
The focus of the Fgurative Illustration minor is on work with the figure and the figure in space, and an introduction to various media and picture making issues.
What figurative illustration techniques will I learn?
Academic figure anatomy, old master and traditional drawing and painting techniques are demonstrated and utilized.

• Pictorial Foundation: an introduction to drawing, painting and picture making
• Figure Anatomy: anatomical study of the figure from life
• Figure Utilization: use of the figure in space for both design and concept
