Foundation in UArts College of Art and Design
The first-year experience provides all art and design students with a set of powerful abilities in visual perception, expression, and image- and object-making. Students take 33 credits of foundation courses.

Broad coursework
Coursework includes two- and three-dimensional design, drawing, and time-based art forms such as animation. Students shoot and edit video, model and cast, and construct works in metal and wood.

A Time for Discovery
You’ll explore your personal talents and experience each of the art and design disciplines. A comprehensive array of freshman electives representative of all of the disciplines in art and design complement the foundation courses.
