BFA in Sculpture
What makes Sculpture at UArts special?
As you earn your degree in sculpture at UArts, you’ll be exposed to the formal, technical and intellectual aspects of sculpture, space, and the environment. You’ll also be exposed to a three-dimensional way of thinking that will make you more perceptive and aware for the rest of your life.

What’s the Sculpture degree program like?
You’ll first be introduced to the fundamentals of sculpture and technical procedures in a variety of materials. As a sophomore, your work will become more interdisciplinary as you take courses in media and other fine arts disciplines like painting/drawing, and printmaking/book arts. At the advanced level, you’ll be able to specialize in the area that reflects your interests as you focus on projects.

What facilities are available?
Our sculpture studio and shop facilities are comprehensive and include air tools for carving, a foundry for bronze and aluminum casting, a wood and fabricating shop, a complete metal shop for forging and welding, and a mold-making shop and a studio for figurative study.

Are the faculty practicing artists?
Yes. Faculty members in the sculpture program represent a variety of backgrounds. They are recipients of grants such as the Gottlieb Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, PA Council on the Arts, the Eisenhower Exchange Program and the Leeway Foundation.

How will UArts’ location in Philadelphia benefit me?
At The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, aspiring artists create at the center of an urban culture. Works like Auguste Rodin’s The Thinker, Robert Indiana's LOVE sculpture, Alexander Stirling Caldor’s Swann Fountain and Alexander Milne Calder’s William Penn atop City Hall empower. With more outdoor works of art than any other city in North America, Philadelphia is an aspiring sculptor’s paradise. There’s also a vibrant gallery scene as well as funding possibilities for individual artists.

Sculpture is one of the deepest impulses of artistic endeavour. Usually called upon as independent artists, sculptors make objects for sale and exhibition, or work on commission for architects and planners."
Sculpture students exhibit their work multiple times while they're in college at UArts.
