Crafts at the University of the Arts

Alexandra WisniewskiThe University of the Arts offers one of the most highly regarded undergraduate Crafts programs in the U.S. Students earning a bachelor's degree in Crafts will benefit from:

  • Innovative curriculum: Customize a crafts program reflecting your interests
  • Comprehensive facilities: Well-equipped studios for ceramics, fiber, glass, jewelry/metals and wood
  • Advanced technology: Some students use age-old processes, some students use C.A.D. (computer aided design) and state-of-the-art equipment like our 3D laser scanner and 3D printer/rapid prototypes, and some students combine both approaches.
  • Philadelphia campus: Live and work in this exciting urban center. A large community of active craftspeople, a vibrant gallery scene and an appreciative audience of collectors combine to make Philadelphia the best city for crafts in the United States. These local resources provide you with many opportunities.

What kinds of exhibitions can I participate in?
Crafts students have numerous opportunities to exhibit their work both on and off-campus. In recent years, the Crafts senior show has been held in such places as Nexus Gallery, Gallery Siano and Crane Arts.

What programs does the University of the Arts offer in Crafts?

What can I do with a degree in Crafts?
The program prepares Crafts graduates for success. At the University of the Arts, you learn what you need to enter the profession as a craftsperson or designer, to become an entrepreneur, or to attend the graduate school of your choice. While studying for your degree in crafts, you can earn credit through an internship that lets you experience, first hand, various craft careers and make contacts that can lead to a job after graduation.
