Who is the Studio Certificate in Crafts program designed for?
Many discover a passion for Craft later in life and are faced with a dilemma—how do I gain the skills and knowledge I need to enter the profession? Few apprenticeships exist. Isolated summer workshops or evening courses give one neither the depth nor breadth needed. It is possible to earn a BFA in Crafts as a second bachelor's degree, but that is expensive in both time and money. Our 30-credit certificate program offers a practical alternative—a high-quality and intensely focused education in Crafts for those interested in changing careers and embarking on a career in the arts.

How will the Studio Certificate in Crafts enhance my career or education?
The program is designed for those students with bachelor's degrees who wish to become proficient in one or more of the following areas:

• Ceramics
• Fibers
• Glass
• Jewelry
• Metal-smithing
• Wood

You will develop the portfolio needed for acceptance into a top graduate program or will be prepared to begin your career as an independent studio artist.
 
How long does the Crafts Certification Program take to complete?
The Crafts Studio Program offers the studio component of the University's undergraduate crafts program in a one-and-one-half or two-year period. Most courses are offered during the day, so students must be available two or three weekdays per semester. The workload will require a minimum time commitment or about 20-30 hours per week. Crafts Studio Program students have full studio access seven days a week.

What are the program’s requirements?
Admission is by portfolio and interview. Students with little or no formal art training will be required to take Foundation courses as a pre- or co-requisite.
