Art Therapy at UArts
Creative Healing Process
As an artist, you express yourself through the creative process. Art therapy takes that one step further. Art therapy encourages children, adolescents and adults with mental, emotional or physical problems to explore their emotions, concerns and experiences by painting, drawing, designing, sculpting, crafting, performing, and writing.

What makes Art Therapy at UArts special?
• Interdisciplinary curriculum: Each studio major allows students to take art therapy courses as studio electives.
• Creative community: You will be exposed to a range of artistic disciplines just by collaborating with classmates and faculty. Their perspectives and insights will diversify your knowledge base.
• Faculty: Many members of our faculty also teach in Drexel’s master’s program for art therapy.

Transforming Society
The University of the Arts is committed to the belief that the arts can transform society. Art therapy introduces people, even those who may have never been exposed to or interested in the arts, to the profound and positive implications of healing through the creative process. Art therapists are true champions of the arts.

UArts offers a concentration in art therapy which, when combined with other areas of art study within the university, will prepare you for a successful career as an art therapist.  Click here for information about the UArts Art Therapy Concentration.

The creative process involved in artistic self-expression helps people to resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and self-awareness, and achieve insight.”
 -The American Art Therapy Association
The creative process and the healing process have many similarities. Students interested in studying more about this can enroll in UArts Art Therapy Concentration.
