What is the philosophy behind UArts Masters in Teaching Visual Arts program?
This professional teaching degree program will prepare you for the Pennsylvania Instructional I Certificate to teach Art in grades K-12. This unique degree program allows you to complete art education certification requirements for teaching while also earning a master's degree recognized by school districts and other potential employers.
 
How will the MAT in Visual Arts program enhance my career?
The Masters in Teaching Visual Arts degree and certification may qualify you for a higher salary and preferred placement.

What is the program comprised of?
• Coursework in the history, theory, and practice of art education
•  Student teaching practicum
• Advanced studio experience
• Liberal arts study
• No thesis required

How long does the program take to complete?
The program may be completed in three full semesters or two semesters and two summers.

How can I get my teaching certification as well?
The program normally leads to teacher certification upon receiving the degree. You must also pass the National Teachers Exam, PRAXIS Series.

What are the program’s requirements?
• B.F.A. or B.A. in studio art with a minimum of 40 studio credits
• B or better cumulative average
