What makes the MA in Art Education at UArts distinctive?The Master of Arts in Art Education program at the Univesity of the Arts is designed to develop the studio, intellectual and professional background of art educators, enabling them to grow as teachers and leaders and achieve advanced goals within the field.
How will the MA in Art Education program enhance my career?Designed for both established and new art teachers, the degree may satisfy credit accrual requirements for PA Certification or lead to other career advancement. Graduates have also found the MA in Art Education program relevant to careers in:
- Museum education
- College teaching (especially junior college)
- Arts administration
- Educational media
- Other related fields
What is the curriculum comprised of?Coordinating professional education courses with work in
Liberal Arts, graduate research and a concentration in studio, the 36-credit Art Education master's program includes:
- Graduate education seminars
- Nearly half of the program may be reserved for work in one or more studio areas, Museum Studies, Liberal Arts or Art Therapy.
- Independent thesis or graduate project
- No student teaching required
What are the program’s admission requirements?
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- No less than 50 credits in studio work with a B or better cumulative average
- A teaching certificate is not required
- Students not holding degrees in the visual arts can expect to complete 18 credits of core studies and/or up to 50 credits of studio work
How long does the program take to complete?
- Full-time: Three semesters
- Part-time: Up to five years
