Pre-Certification in Art Education
Who is the Art Education Pre-Certification program designed for?
Students who want to earn their undergraduate degree through one of the other academic programs at UArts and also work towards licensure to teach art K-12 in PA public schools.

What are the benefits of the concentration?
• You’ll be prepared to enter the Post-baccalaureate Teacher Program at UArts
• Through that, you can complete the requirements for Pennsylvania Instructional I Certificate to Teach Art K-12 ( in as little as one semester) beyond graduation
• Qualified students may also apply for the Master of Arts in Teaching Program

Is it possible to earn a BFA and MAT in 5 years?
Yes, it is possible but very difficult. You must be really disciplined about completing all required certification pre-requisites and 6 credits of 500 level art education coursework, and must enter the MAT program as a summer admit and take 9 credits. Then you must take 18 credits in the fall and 12 credits in the spring while you are student teaching, which is not recommended. This is a challenging schedule.
