How will the Art Therapy Concentration enhance my career?
Should you opt not to pursue a Master’s degree in art therapy, the program will help you develop the critical and analytical skills needed to work in a variety of either art related or mental health fields. Graduates who have opted not to continue to study art therapy note that this course of study fosters a degree of flexibility and sophistication in their perceptions and approaches, and hence, to their careers.

How many courses are required?
The nine-course concentration is focused in psychology and the behavioral sciences, and provides an excellent opportunity to explore the field, to prepare for graduate study in art therapy, or to acquire a perspective valuable in other art-related professions, particularly education.  Students take four specified psychology courses (meeting part of their  Liberal Arts requirements) and five art therapy courses (meeting part of their studio elective requirements).

Is a master’s degree required to become an art therapy professional?
Yes. There are numerous graduate programs in Art Therapy. UArts students interested in applying to the Hahnemann Creative Arts in Therapy Program at Drexel University for a master's degree in Art Therapy have the advantage of studying with faculty who teach in both the UArts and Hahnemann Art Therapy Programs. As a candidate for graduate school, you’ll be well prepared with a solid foundation in the underpinnings of Art Therapy.  You will already have the knowledge and background to look at a patient’s artwork and begin to understand the meanings contained within it.

Even if you don’t intend to go into art therapy professionally, the skills will also make you a better educator and a more well-rounded artist."
UArts Art Therapy students can become professional art therapists, using the therapeutic nature of creativity to help others.
