Program Director, MDes Product Design


The University of the Arts seeks a Program Director to lead the new MDes Product Design Program in the College of Art, Media & Design. Reporting directly to the Dean, the Program Director is responsible for the educational and administrative activities of the program including: the content, direction and delivery of the curricula; the student experience; the management of faculty and staff, and all affiliated budgets.

This is a full time faculty appointment with administrative responsibilities. It is expected that the Program Director will teach in the graduate program and in the undergraduate concentration in Product Design in the BS Industrial Design program.

The successful candidate is a working Industrial Designer, experienced teacher and administrator and will be able to teach a wide range of Product-related subjects from beginning to advanced levels (in both the undergraduate and graduate programs), possess a deep, current knowledge of industry trends and best practices as well as a strong record of professional achievement. Candidates should have at least five years teaching experience at college level. 

Geographically located prominently on the Avenue of the Arts in Center City, Philadelphia the University of the Arts is one of the oldest and largest comprehensive private institutions of higher education centered in the arts in the United States. Its undergraduate and graduate programs prepare students for more than 150 professional career paths in the visual, performing, media, design and communication arts, and related fields.

An advanced degree in Industrial Design, Product Design or a related field and professional experience in Industrial Design is required. Applicants should provide evidence of both professional and academic leadership as well as teaching experience that would warrant an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor.
