De Angela Duff: Cultural Photography

A multimedia faculty member in UArts’ College of Media and Communication, De Angela Duff’s job is to be versatile. With a BS in textile engineering and a BFA in
Graphic design, she’s certainly acquired a wide range of skills. De has worked in:
• Photography
• Web design
• Motion Graphics (e-cards, website trailers)
• DVD
• Print

While working at New York City’s Nettmedia, where she moved up from Senior Designer to Art Director, her work focused on the entertainment, sports and arts industries. She did work for clients such as:
• Atlantic Records
• Rolling Stone Radio
• Miramax Films
• Motown Records
• The Museum of Modern Art
• New York Yankees

Now De Angela’s about to add another degree to her resume: M.F.A. in Photography from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). For her comparison thesis, she traveled down south and to South Africa to juxtapose the contrasts and similarities between the cultures of her childhood in Alabama and her African heritage.

Listen to De’s show “No Turn Unstoned” on UArts Radio on Mondays from 8 -10 p.m. and check out her work at http://www.polishedsolid.com/.

Africa or Alabama? In many of De's photographs, the cultures of Alabama and Africa seem to be one.
