AAC 2007-08 and 2008-09 Cohorts: Participation and Technology Fees
For AAC Program 2007-08 and 2008-09 Cohorts Only
(program participants who entered prior to Fall 2009)
In 2007, The University of the Arts entered into an agreement with Apple, Inc. as part of the Anytime Anywhere Creativity initiative, in which participating students were provided a complete computing package, including a new Macintosh notebook, a software package customized by a student’s major, and comprehensive campus computer support.
Using our negotiated volume discount with Apple, UArts purchased laptops for the 2007-08 and 2008-09 AAC cohorts and provided multiple payment plan options to allow students to spread payments out over time. (See chart below) Upon completion of payments, transfer of ownership of the computer will occur when the student exits the program. Any associated software provided by the University under this program remains the property of the University and must be returned to the University at that time.

During the life of the payment plan, participants will be billed each semester for half of the annual fee. Differences in totals for the various payment options are based on the finance charges being applied. The longer the payment plan, the greater the amount of interest accrued.
The University provides the hardware and software to students at a discount. The total value of the MacBook Pro, with enhanced graphics and video capabilities, various software applications – including Preview, iChat, iTunes, Mac OS X Mail, iPhoto, and Office for Mac – and external hard drive is $3,073. In addition, the University has also included insurance protection, to cover theft/loss, beyond-warranty repairs and service. A Laptop Service Center is also available, staffed with professionals to provide trouble-shooting and routine support.
Should a student withdraw from the University during the semester, he/she will have the option of purchasing the laptop for the balance remaining on the payment plan. Any associated software provided by the University under this program will remain the property of the University and must be returned to the University at that time. In accordance with Federal guidelines, refunds for payments already received will be determined per the University's General Refund Policy:

Should a student withdraw between semesters, no refunds will be granted, but the student will have the option to purchase the laptop for the remaining balance. Any associated software provided by the University under this program will remain the property of the University and must be returned to the University at that time. Withdrawing students not wishing to purchase the laptop will be required to return all hardware and software in accordance with the agreement signed at the time they received the laptop. Please note that the laptop may only be returned within the first two semesters after the students has received it. Withdrawing students will automatically be billed the remaining balance on the payment plan. For example, if the student receives his/her laptop at the start of the Fall 2008 semester, he/she has until the last day of the Spring 2009 semester to return it.
Should a student take a leave of absence at any time, no refunds will be granted, but the student will have the option to purchase the laptop for the remaining balance owed on the laptop. If, when the student returns from the leave of absence, he/she has not paid the balance owed, the student will be placed back on the original payment plan, according to the fee schedule above. If the student fails to return on the designated date, payment will be due in full for the balance owed on the laptop.
An annual Technology Fee is assessed to all students, with half billed during the Fall semester, the other half during the Spring semester. The Technology Fee supports the campus’s technology infrastructure, support services, and access to resources and applications both on- and off-campus.
